Hola Y’all! My name is Jacqueline Hinton, but you can call me Jackie. I was born and raised in from Austin, Texas and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.F.A. in Dance where I was introduced to Pilates as part of the curriculum. After graduation, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue my professional dance career. Because of dance, I have had the opportunity to do some pretty cool stuff, but Pilates has kept me dancing and doing so much more!
I became a Pilates instructor in 2006 at Bodyline LA under the instruction of Maria Leone. While I was getting certified, I thought it was so gross to use the same Pilates loops everyone else was putting their hands and feet in. That’s when idea of the first personal Pilates loops was born.
It’s been a crazy 5 years, but we’ve learned so much, met so many amazing Pilates studio owners, teachers, and Pilates lovers all over the world. When the pandemic hit, we never imagined what kind of year we would have. We got loops to more people than we could have ever dreamed. We started this company to bring fun, color, and something different to the Pilates world. As a proud Latina, I grew up in a fun, festive family that inspired the bright colors of our loops. It makes my heart happy knowing the Latino spirit is being spread throughout the Pilates community. My Memaw Mary would be so proud!
Good Citizen was named Good Citizen because we wanted to remind the Pilates community that we need to be good to one another, but also that Pilates is so much bigger than just what happens in the studio. As Pilates instructors, we help people live their best lives, but we need to think outside the Pilates studio if we want to truly use Pilates to benefit more people. Over the years, the name Good Citizen has become even more meaningful for us. We have brought our core values to our business as we’ve grown, especially in 2020: Pilates, Fun, Philanthropy! We look forward to 2021 and the opportunity for more Pilates, more Fun, and even more Philanthropy.
